Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed for the CARMH 9 event with the intention that it not be located prior to 7 PM, Friday, Aug. 17th. The caches for the CARMH 9 event are released early so that the geocaching community has an opportunity to plan their routes prior to the event start.

I stumbled across this strange sight while looking for cache spots for the event. What the heck is that!? It kinda looks like Stonehenge ~ an area shrouded in mystery. Stonehenge is made up of an ancient arrangement of 83 rock sculptures assembled over 5000 years ago, which originally was where prehistoric people buried their cremated dead. All human remains located at the site were in ashen form with the exception of one beheaded man, which some suggest means that he was an executed criminal, but his burial at Stonehenge may indicate that he had previously been in a position of power, possibly even a royal one. The site of Stonehenge appears to have it's stones sunken into the Earth. In the 1880s, after carrying out some of the first scientifically recorded excavations at the site, Charles Darwin concluded that earthworms were largely to blame for the Stonehenge stones sinking through the soil. The larger stones are called sarsens (made of a type of sandstone), and it has also been noted that estimated total of 30 sarsen stones multiplied by 12 astrological signs equalled 360 days of the year, while the inner circle represented the lunar month. Some have even speculated that it was a model of the solar system constructed by ancient alien visitors! For centuries, a British Historian proclaimed that the mysterious monument was the work of legendary wizard, Merlin. In modern times, we view Stonehenge as a type of prehistoric temple aligned with the movements of the sun. Maybe you have some of your own theories about it as well!

Watch your step and be aware of the prairie critters that can be lurking in this area. Welcome to SAW 9, and happy caching! :)
