AR_Gotta Catch 'Em All Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

sparklebritt: I think the AR caches have outlived the technology used to create them. These were fun but the interest is no longer there. Cheers!

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the McNeely Lake Pokemon Lab!  Professor Oak is looking for a Pikachu!  Can you help him? To play this "experience" you must have the Metaverse App installed on your cell phone. Download links are at the bottom. The D level reflects the need for this tool.

Play Here:
https://mtvrs.io/BrightPresentSardine
If you click the link from the geocaching app, the experience will open the Metaverse within the geocaching app. You will need to input coordinates into something like Google Maps. If you click the link from the website it should open in the Metaverse app. If you have access to a second device you may scan the QR code and it will open the Metaverse app.

The posted coordinates are bogus, but are a good place to start your adventure.  This experience will take you through part of McNeely Lake Park.  There is ample parking near each coordinate, but the distance is short enough to be a nice walk if you want the exercise.  You can start your experience anywhere in the parking lot, but you will need to visit each of the required locations and answer a question in order to move forward.

NOTE:  You will want to have a notebook to keep track of coordinates and answers.  When you answer a question correctly it will allow the story to move forward and you will unlock the ability to get the next set of coordinates.  You may want to write coordinates down in order to more easily enter them into the geocaching app.  You may want to write down your answers in case there is an issue where the app does not work correctly.  You can toggle between the Metaverse app and the Geocaching app using your phone (if you did not open it inside the geocaching app), but if the Metaverse app closes or you accidentally back out (like I'm prone to do) it will not save your place in the experience.  If you save the information you can restart the experience from the beginning and quickly get back where you were.

Thanks to the GeoGrants for being my beta testers for this cache, and to slamere72 for help navigating the Metaverse and answering my numerous questions.

NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL STUFF

On June 6, 2018 Geocaching HQ announced a new Augmented Reality (AR) geocaching experience. This is a simple Augmented Reality cache that I created. You will need to use an android/iOS phone, tablet or other compatible mobile device to experience it. This Augmented Reality experience can be played using the Metaverse app which you can find here:

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gometa.metaverse
iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/metaverse-ar-browser/id1159155137?mt=8

“This cache is part of an experiment that allows the use of Augmented Reality (AR) apps to find the cache. At the end of this experiment, Geocaching HQ will decide if this cache will be grandfathered or archived. Geocaching HQ reserves the right to archive this cache at any time if conditions change. If you have found this cache and would like to give feedback on your experience, please fill out this survey.”
