Ho conosciuto Geocaching a Torino. Dopo il mio ritorno in Sicilia ho visualizzato la mappa dell’isola e ho scoperto l'esigua presenza di cache. A Casteldaccia, mio paese natale, non è presente nessun cache (cascitedda in siciliano e casciulella in napoletano). Quindi ho deciso di nascondere alcune “cascitedde” nel mio paesino. La prima è collocata in Piazza Dante nel quartiere Olivuzza, luogo simbolo della mia infanzia e della mia adolescenza.
Piazza Dante, conosciuta anche solamente come “Piazzetta” ('a Chiazzetta), è il centro del quartiere. È frequentata da gente di tutte le età ed è un luogo di ritrovo, anche grazie al bar e alle varie attività commerciali presenti nelle vicinanze. Di certo non è il massimo del decoro a causa del decadimento e dell’incuria dell’arredo urbano.
Nel 2000 la Piazzetta venne rivoluzionata nell’impianto strutturale, assumendo così l’aspetto attuale. Tuttavia quest'opera di riassetto urbanistico causò la perdita della caratteristica pianta a forma di stella della piazza e della bizzarra scultura a forma di cerchio, che era simbolo del quartiere.
I first discovered Geocaching when I was in Turin. Now that I am back to Sicily I have found out that there are not many caches. In Casteldaccia, my town, there are no cache (cascitedda in Sicilian and casciulella in Neapolitan). So I have decided to leave some "cascitedde" in my town. The first is located in Piazza Dante in the Olivuzza neighborhood, a symbol of my childhood and adolescence.
Piazza Dante, also known as "Piazzetta" (Chiazzetta), is the centre of the neighborhood. It is a meeting point forum people of all ages, thanks to the café and the various commercial activities nearby. Certainly it is not a magnificent place due to the decay in the marble decorations and neglect of street furniture.
In the year 2000, the structural systembof the Piazzetta was renewed, thus taking on its current appearance. However, this work of urban reorganization has caused the loss of the characteristic star-shaped plan of the square and the bizarre circle-shaped sculpture, once was a symbol of the neighborhood.
