Mill Pond belongs to West Ashling Mill also known as Hacketts Mill which was built in 1825 originally a unique building as it was a watermill and a windmill milling corn. Converted in the 1830's it produced paper pulp from rags until the 1850's when it then reverted back to flour milling by the Armfields, hampshire millwrights. The watermill worked into the 1930's but the fantail and the sweeps were removed by 1922 due to local residents complaining of the noise they made. The building became grade ll listed sometime after thereby stopping any renovation of bringing back the windmill.
The mill still houses much of the original workings.......fabulous building which has been lovingly renovated recently.
