Applying Geocaching to Education
This cache is a part of a pedagogic European Erasmus + project called « Geocaching - Minds on the Move ». Pupils and teachers from seven different countries (France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Spain) have used Geocaching as an Educational Tool. We hope you’ll enjoy it.

Along corso Cavour, nearly halfway between the Angolo delle Ore and Piazza Cavour, on your left, you will find Vicolo Monte Ariolo - the place is linked to the famous Novara Biscuits.
The biscuits (biscottini di Novara) are lightweight cookies with an airy and crumbly texture, a rectangular shape with rounded corners and a golden color. The only three ingredients used to prepare them are: wheat flour, sugar and eggs (no butter or other fats!); for this reason the biscuits are extremely light and easy to digest.
In the 16th century in some female convents around Novara the nuns used to make biscuits to be offered to the pilgrims. Those biscuits were made according to a recipe that was handed down for generations.
With the suppression of the convents, ordered by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1800, the nuns were expelled and had to change their lives. Some of them were given hospitality by the wealthy families of the city and there they started sharing their knowledge and skills, also related to culinary art. Some pastry and biscuit factories made the biscuits famous and developed preservation methods to distribute the biscuit also out of the city. The most famous version of the Biscottini di Novara nowadays, which are sold all over the world, are the Pavesini.

Lungo corso Cavour, quasi a metà strada tra l'Angolo delle Ore e Piazza Cavour, sulla vostra destra, troverete Vicolo Monte Ariolo, luogo strettamente legato a un prodotto tipico della città – i famosi BISCOTTI DI NOVARA.
L'origine dei biscotti è questa:
Nel XVI secolo in alcune conventi femminili intorno a Novara le monache preparavano dei biscotti da offrire ai pellegrini. Quei biscotti erano fatti secondo una ricetta tramandata da generazioni. Con la soppressione dei conventi, ordinata da Napoleone Bonaparte nel 1800, le suore furono espulse e dovettero cambiare vita. Alcune di loro vennero ospitate dalle famiglie benestanti della città e lì iniziarono a condividere le loro conoscenze e abilità, anche legate all'arte culinaria.
Alcune fabbriche di pasticceria e biscotti di Novara hanno fatto propria la ricetta e hanno così reso famosi i biscotti e sviluppato metodi di conservazione per distribuirli anche fuori città.
La versione più famosa dei Biscotti di Novara al giorno d'oggi sono i Pavesini, che vengono venduti in tutto il mondo.
Per tornare al luogo dove vi trovate, Luigi Camporelli iniziò la produzione dei biscotti nel 1852 nel Vicolo Monte Ariolo 3, proprio nel centro di Novara. Attualmente la fabbrica di biscotti è gestita da uno degli eredi, Ambrogio, e ci lavorano quindici persone. I biscotti sono venduti nel negozio che porta lo stesso nome ("Camporelli") e distribuiti in altri esercizi commerciali principalmente nel Nord Italia.
Una curiosità: all'angolo tra Corso Cavour e Via Monte Ariolo c'è un negozio abbastanza particolare: è il negozio di scarpe di Adriano Stefanelli. Stefanelli ha realizzato scarpe per personaggi molto importanti tra cui il Papa Benedetto XVI, George Bush, Michelle Obama, i piloti di Formula 1 e famosi politici italiani.
