The Chandler Trail. A chance to take a nice Sunday drive with the kids from From Armidale to Wollomombi, with a loop back around via Thorpleigh Road, and grab some easy caches along the way (no hints!).
Please bear in mind this route will take you through private properties with cattle and sheep in the paddocks the road passes through (even if you don't see them). If you have dogs with you please keep them on a lead so the locals don't become anxious, as they do have problems with wild dogs out here.
So please stay on the road, drive carefully and enjoy :)
Welcome to the Wollomombi River, though you are a long way from where it arises, up on the plateau at Chandler's Peak near Guyra. Downstream it tumbles over Wollomombi falls, the tallest single drop waterfall in Australia, at 260m height. At this point though the river is winding around the ridge on which the Pointsfield farmstead is located, that property being adjacent to Kilcoy. You might see some waterfowl and there's plenty of duckweed and it's a nice spot to explore along the riverside, but it probably isn't safe to swim.
Be aware if there has been a lot of recent rain it is possible the causeway may be impassable. In that event you might have to continue the trail back via Thorpleigh Road and complete the trail coming back this way via Wollomombi.
