Geocache Description:

The Chandler Trail. A chance to take a nice Sunday drive with the kids from From Armidale to Wollomombi, with a loop back around via Thorpleigh Road, and grab some easy caches along the way (no hints!).

An extraction tool might be handy; BYOP.

Please bear in mind this route will take you through private properties with cattle and sheep in the paddocks the road passes through (even if you don't see them). If you have dogs with you please keep them on a lead so the locals don't become anxious, as they do have problems with wild dogs out here.

So please stay on the road, drive carefully and enjoy :)

Kilcoy CemeteryFrom GZ you can look past Kilcoy Homestead, an unremarkable house, to something much more interesting - Kilcoy Cemetery. You can't get to it through this gate but there is a public access just a bit further down the road. The public access was recently constructed and there's a bit of a story about that.

The original access was via the main Kilcoy farm entry here, then past the homestead and on to the cemetery you can see on the crest of the low hill behind it. You pretty much need to be Wollomombi farming royalty to be buried there, you know. The families represented are well known in the Armidale area. The cemetery was public access, but the access was through private land and the property owner threatened to cut access through his land back in 2014. In response the Council spent about $80,000 developing a new road into the historic cemetery that skirts around the house on the North side. Now visitors and locals can access the cemetery via the new public road, which is gated, but not locked.
