Geocache Description:

The official designation is BIG CHIQUES #4 of this county owned Covered Bridge.

This bridge has a single span, wooden, double Burr Arch Trusses. The deck is made from oak planks. The horizontal side boards aare painted red inside and out, with both approaches painted white. This bridge is one of three in Lancaster County that has horizontal side boards. I also believe that this Lancaster County bridge may be unique with the steel girders framing both the approaches, since back in December of 2017, a truck driver did major damage to this bridge while attempting to cross it. I guess they dont have covered bridges in Arizona.

This bridge was also added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Originally built in 1847, by Charles Melhoun for $650.00. In 1855, after extensive flood damage, it was rebuilt for $837.00

This Bridge is the 3rd oldest in Lancaster County still open to traffic.

The length of this bridge span is 80 feet and 96 feet in total length, with the width between 13' 10" to 15 feet. Overhead clearance is 10' 6" to 12 feet.

PARKING IS TRICKY...BRIDGE AND ROAD CAN BE BUSY AT TIMES
