La Pieve e il Battistero sono collocati sull’altura rocciosa che sovrasta l’abitato di Settimo Vittone e sono circoscritti, in parte, dai ruderi dell’antico Castello Vecchio e dal cosiddetto Castello Nuovo (XVII sec.).
Incerto è il periodo di fondazione delle due strutture religiose: alcuni studi propendono per una fondazione coeva nel IX-X sec., altri ipotizzano che il Battistero sia anteriore alla struttura della Pieve.
Il complesso è oggi “monumento segnalato dal FAI”.
Orari e visite:
Tutte le domeniche da fine marzo a fine ottobre dalle 15h alle 18h (a pagamento) Durante la settimana bisogna prenotare (la visita è a pagamento) L’ingresso è gratuito per i minori di 14 anni, i residenti di Settimo Vittone e i soci FAI.
Vicino alla chiesa passano diverse mulattiere e sentieri, tra cui la Via Francigena.
Il cache è un bussolotto di metallo magnetico. Non c’è bisogno di entrare nel complesso per scovarlo!

The Parish church and the Baptistery are located on the high rocks that dominate the township of Settimo Vittone, and are enclosed partially by the ruins of the ancient Vecchio Castello (The Old Castle) and partially by the so called Castello Nuovo (The New Castle- 17th Century).
It is not known when these two religious edifices were built. Some studies indicate a coeval construction in the 9th/10th century, while others theorize that the Baptistery had been built before the Parish church.
The entire site has been the subject of various reconstruction works throughout its history. Alfredo D’Andrade intervened in the late 19th century, when the monument was in very poor condition. At the end of the 20th century, the Ministry for Preservation of Cultural Heritage competently carried out a massive restoration program recovering a vast number of frescoes that are still visible inside the edifices. The recent floor removal works, both in the Baptistery and in the connecting corridor, brought to light a well-preserved baptismal immersion font, wall structures and flooring, that help enable a view of the evolution of the entire monumental complex.
Today this complex is a monument recommended by the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano).
Opening:
Every sunday from march to october from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm (paid admission with or without guided tour). During the week special visit by appointment (paid admission with guided tour) Free entrance for child below 14 years old, for Settimo Vittone’s residents and for FAI members.
Different trails, as well as the Via Francigena, start not far from the Church.
The cache is an aluminum container. You don’t have to enter the complex in order to find it.

L’église paroissiale et le Baptistère se trouvent sur une butte rocheuse qui surplombe la commune de Settimo Vittone. Ils sont entourés en partie par les ruines du Castello Vecchio (château ancien) et en partie par le Castello Nuovo (château nouveau - qui date du XVIIème siècle).
La période de fondation des deux constructions religieuses est douteuse: certaines études penchent pour l’idée d’une fondation contemporaine des deux parties vers le IX-Xème siècle; d’autres envisagent la construction antécèdente du Baptistère.
L’ensemble a été plusieurs fois objet de rénovation. Alfredo D’Andrade entreprit des travaux fin XIXème siècle, quand le monument se trouvait dans un état piteux. Vers la fin du XXème siècle un important projet de rénovation a été mis en acte par la direction générale pour la conservation du patrimoine. A’ cette occasion des cycles de fresques, toujours visibles aujourd’hui, furent retrouvé et remis en valeur. La récente élimination du revêtement du sol du Baptistère et de la galerie a permis de découvrir un ancien font baptismal à immersion en très bonne condition avec structures murales et pavimentations qui sont très utiles pour recréer les phases évolutives de l’ensemble monumental.
L’ensemble des constructions est aujourd’hui un “monument signalé par le FAI”.
Horaires et visites:
Tous les dimanches de mars à octobre de 15h à 18h (entrée payante, avec ou sans visite guidée). En semaine il faut réserver à l’avance (entrée payante avec visite guidée) L’entrée est gratuite pour les enfants de moins de 14 ans, les habitants de Settimo Vittone et les membres du FAI
Proche de l'église se trouvent différents parcours et chemins, la Via Francigena entre autres.
Le cache est un petit récipient en métal, magnétique. Il n’est pas nécessaire de rentrer pour le trouver.
