Geocache Description:

After the first European settlers arrived in the Leavenworth area in the late 1800s  the economy was based on timber and the railroad. Along with those came agriculture, services, and other business that supported the main industries. In the 1920s the railroad rerouted its tracks and closed its switching yards. Then the mill closed. The town began to die. By the 1960s it was almost a ghost town with empty shops and limited opportunities.

At that time the local citizens came together with a vision of renewed prosperity built around tourism. The seed of an idea to highlight the scenic beauty of the valley was planted. The creation of an authentic Bavarian Village theme town grew from that seed. It took lots of hard work and the personal investment of time and money by many dedicated people over many years to make that vision into the amazing reality that we see in Leavenworth today.

This cache is located here to recognize just a few of the many service groups and volunteers whose efforts and dedication rebuilt and revived Leavenworth; and who continue every day to keep this town a wonderful place to live, work, and play.

This cache is just off a main highway with lots of speedy muggles going by. The best approach is from the westbound lane. There is ample parking. Use stealth as you get near to the cache. There is room for small trade and trackable items.
