Exchange cache ROMA <-> PARIS

This multi-cache is an "exchange cache" beetween Rome and Paris and will require international cooperation between you and a fellow geocacher from Rome's sister city in France...Paris!
First, some history, though.
| Il 30 gennaio 2016 la sindaca di Parigi insieme al Commissario Straordinario di Roma Francesco Paolo Tronca hanno celebrato i 60 anni del Gemellaggio tra Roma e Parigi suggellato con il motto: ''Solo Parigi è degna di Roma, solo Roma è degna di Parigi". Un'unione sancita anche da due monumenti praticamente dimenticati. A Parigi, una bellissima lupa capitolina donata dai romani sonnecchia tra le piante di un giardinetto del Quartiere Latino, a due passi dall'Università della Sorbona. A Roma, proprio su via Parigi, vicino a piazza della Repubblica, il vascello-simbolo della capitale francese svetta su una colonna antica. A memoria dell’evento, sul muro dell’edificio del Planetarium, in Via Parigi, si trova ancor oggi una grande lapide latina dove si legge chiaramente: “Roma novam insignemque viam eximiis antiqui aevi monumentis continentem Lutetiae Parisiorum geminae veluti sorori faustissime sibi ante triennium coniunctae studiosa voluntate nuper dicatam sollemni ritu publicae commoditati patefecit III kal maias anno domini MDCCCCLVIIII”. È la prova, in solido marmo, che via Parigi è una strada tutta nuova (novam viam) che fu dedicata a Parigi e aperta al traffico tre anni dopo il gemellaggio. La colonna commemorativa del gemellaggio Roma-Parigi è in marmo cipollino (marmor carystium) e fu trovata anni or sono in Piazza Nicosia; non è rifinita e conserva ancora visibili le marche di cava. Sulla colonna è stata collocata una nave di bronzo, simbolo di Parigi, scolpita da Felix Joffre, che è stata donata dalla municipalità di Parigi. Com’è noto, lo stemma della Capitale francese ricorda con la navicella e col motto “fluctuat nec mergitur” l’antica corporazione dei mercanti fluviali della Senna dai quali ebbe luogo la municipalità parigina. Le iscrizioni latine sul basamento sono state dettate dal prof. Raffaello Santarelli. Il prof Felix Joffre, nato nel 1903 e morto nel 1989 fu Prix de Rome nel 1925. Il Prof. Raffaello Santarelli fu membro insigne del Gruppo dei Romanisti. Il final vi porterà vicino a un luogo ben noto a Felix Joffre. |

On 30 January 2016, the mayor of Paris together with the Extraordinary Commissioner of Rome, Francesco Paolo Tronca, celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Twinning between Rome and Paris sealed with the motto: "Only Paris is worthy of Rome, only Rome is worthy of Paris." A union sanctioned by two almost forgotten monuments. In Paris, a beautiful Roman she-wolf donated by the Romans, doze among the plants of a small garden in the Latin Quarter, a stone's throw from the University of the Sorbonne. In Rome, right on Via Parigi, near Piazza della Repubblica, the symbolic vessel of the French capital stands out on an ancient column. The commemorative column of the Rome-Paris twinning is in cipollino marble (marmor carystium) and was found years ago in Piazza Nicosia; It is not finished and still retains the quarry brands. On the column was placed a bronze ship, symbol of Paris, sculpted by Felix Joffre, which was donated by the Paris municipality. As is well known, the coat of arms of the French capital recalls with the ship and with the motto "fluctuat nec mergitur" the ancient guild of the river merchants of the Seine from which the Parisian municipality took place. The Latin inscriptions on the base were dictated by prof. Raffaello Santarelli. Prof. Felix Joffre, born in 1903 and died in 1989, was Prix de Rome in 1925. Prof. Raffaello Santarelli was a distinguished member of the Romanisti Group. The final brings you near a very well known place by Felix Joffre. |

This cache aims to promote cooperation between a French geocacher and an Italian geocacher, in the spirit of twinning between the cities of Paris in Rome in 1956.
Unless you have the chance to travel to Paris, you will have to to get in touch with a geocacher in Paris to make this cache in pairs with you.
It is actually two related caches: "Solo Roma è degna di Parigi" GC7TQMM in Paris, and "Seule Paris est digne de Rome" (GC7V709) in Rome. A Parisian geocacher looks for Parisian clues to find the Roman cache, while a Roman geocacher seeks clues located in his city to find the Paris cache. And then they will exchange the final coordinates. |

Even Paris has its own Pantheon designed on the model of the Pantheon in Rome, but it is not the only monument inspired by the architecture of Rome, also the Column Vendôme in Place Vendôme was erected on the model of the Colonna Traiana in Rome.
