This spot marks the half way point between Whangarei and Kawakawa and was used as a refuse transfer site until 2008. Volunteers from Maromaku have been working very hard to clean up this intersection. It as now taken the small band of volunteers, led by Maromaku's Barbara Clark, years to landscape and plant the area, build a bush walkway and install outdoor tables. The rest area, unofficially known as Maromaku Park, also boasts a giant xylophone, chimes and hopscotch for children's play.
There was also a portaloo installed but this was damaged and the replacement was then stolen and never recovered. They are still fundraising to try and put in more permanent toilets to this small park and rest area.
When we placed the cache the area has since been further developed with concrete mosaic and hand/footprint pathways leading to the bush walk.
The cache is located at the start of the bush walk and is a large pill bottle with blue lid. On placement contains log and a few swapable items.
This area is normally overlooked although if you look you can see as you fly past........ why not stop rest and stretch your legs. Have a look around and pick up a cache at the same time!
