Old K175 is a K class locomotive. The trains were first built in 1922 as 2-8-0 light freight steam engines. A total of 52 K class engines were built. K175 was built in Newport railways workshop in 194E & saw service throughout the the state working both freight & at times passenger trains. The engine as it is in its present state is fitted with wheels of the traditional spoke type. However the main driving wheel is of a later design called boxpox. This type was fitted to the last seven of its class. The final days of the locomotive saw it being held in reserve for heavy wheat seasons and supplementing diesel power. This engine was withdrawn frow service due to poor mechanical condition and a defective internal steam pipe on 26/A/1972 having steamed 29035C miles.
