Some days you're the dog... Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

antbedy: Time to archive this one since only one person has managed to solve and found it in four years. The main reason he was able to was because I stole a lot of ideas from him in creating the cache. Our minds work in weird ways!

Recently, I saw a post on Facebook about Tom Bob, a street artist in New York who creates art with
everyday objects in the streets of the city. A gas meter was transformed into a pink flamingo that
is standing on one leg (the pipe going into the ground). A manhole cover became a turtle gone splat
under tire tracks. A set of electric meters on a wall are now watches displayed on the inside of the top
coat of a man trying to sell them to unsuspecting passersby. A webpage highlighting his art says:
He turns boring pipes, pit hole lids, into interesting street art which is thoroughly enjoyable. The art/
vandalism that he does is interesting and enjoyable. It catches the eye. But, some are critical/
disapproving of his work. This is evident in some of the online comments. One, written by a
man who praised the creations, caught my eye. I don’t know if he is a civilian or maybe he is a fireman
but he had an excellent point that I had never thought about. His post said something like, “…except
for the fire hydrant. The color of a fire hydrant denotes pressure and flow. You shouldn’t disturb
a fire hydrant.” This comment made me think, and I started trying to observe the color of every fire
hydrant I could see in my daily travels. While many of them in our area seemed to be painted
silver and blue, some of them are painted solid red or silver with orange caps. I had never really
thought about the different colors, but realized that there was a reason for the different colors.
I started doing some research and learned a lot. I decided to create a puzzle cache using this topic
as a basis for the puzzle. While I have solved a fair number of puzzles, I’ve only built a couple, so
it took me a while to figure out how to build it. I looked at several different options, but none of them
seemed to be feasible. Finally, I hit upon an idea and started to build on it. Your job is to decipher/
solve the puzzle that I have built. It may take a while. I would suggest that you begin your quest with
studying this cache description. What I have written here may seem confusing and somewhat wordy
but I can assure you that there is a reason for every word here. In fact all of the text that I selected
is here for a very specific reason. Next, you will want to take a look at the rest of the page, looking for
other clues that will assist you in solving this puzzle. No, I will not provide you with any more of a
hint than that. I will say that all of the tools that I have employed here are the ones that you have seen
in other caches in this area. I have not come up with anything new here, but you might have heard it
said that “Imitation is the sincerest (form) of flattery.” I hope that you will enjoy the task of solving
this puzzle. Just remember, when you find the cache it is for your eyes only - not the general public
