Legenda întemeierii Romei este ilustrată prin reprezentările Lupei Capitoline sau a lupei romane. Acest simbol, echivalent în Antichitate cu venerarea spiritului roman (latin) şi, implicit, a împăratului, îl regăsim şi în Dacia. Legenda întemeierii Romei a primit o frumoasă şi celebră înfăţişare sculpturală prin Lupa Capitolina (lupoaica de pe Capitol). Prima operă cunoscută, turnată în bronz, de origine etruscă (datând din sec. V. a. Chr.), a apărut înainte ca miturile naşterii Romei să se cristalizeze îndeajuns. Motiv pentru care cei doi gemeni, Romulus şi Remus, ce s-ar fi născut în urma unei legături dintre zeul Marte şi o vestală, Rhea Silvia, nu au existat iniţial, fiind puşi în operă abia în Renaştere. La Alba Iulia, interesul de readucere în actualitate a simbolului Romei s-a concretizat târziu, raportat la istoria romană de excepţie a oraşului. În anul 1993, o statuie cu lupoaica şi cei doi gemeni a fost donată de către oraşul Alessandria (Italia) şi aşezată pe o coloană cu capitel în Piaţa Alessandria, unde poate fi şi astăzi privită de trecători.

The Capitoline Wolf illustrates the legend of the foundation of Rome. We find this symbol in the territory of Dacia. In antiquity it represented the veneration of the Roman (Latin) spirit and, implicitly, that of the emperor. Two monuments from Apulum of this kind display these symbols of Rome. The legend of the foundation of Rome came to be illustrated by a famous and beautiful sculpture, namely the Capitoline Wolf (Lupa Capitolina). The earliest work of this kind, made of bronze, was Etruscan in origin and dates from the fifth century BC. This work was created before the myth of the birth of Rome was sufficiently articulated. For this reason, the twin babies, Romulus and Remus, born from relations between the god Mars and the Vestal Virgin Rhea Silvia, were not part of this work. They were only added to the work during the Renaissance. In 1993, a statue with the wolf and the twins was donated by Alessandria (Italy) and emplaced on a column with a capital in Alessandria Square in Alba Iulia where it can be admired by passers-by.
