This cache is placed in honor of our sister-in-law, Leah. Her second grade class in Washington State adopted a Sequoia tree here in her honor because of her love of this area where she formerly lived. The coordinates of the tree (or trees since they are a group of five) given by the Sequoia ForestKeeper is N 36.79387 W 118.98517. We are placing this large ammo can close by so that we will have a another reason to visit this beautiful location.
Getting here: Take Hwy 180 into Kings Canyon National Park (there is a fee all but a few select days of the year) and go towards and then past Grant Grove. Continue north out of the park and into the Sequoia National Forest towards Converse Basin. Follow the signs to the "Chicago Stump" - this is a well maintained one-lane dirt road and 4-Wheel drive is not normally required in the summer, but use caution depending on weather and season. Continue following the signs to the Chicago Stump and park at one of the pull-outs at or just past the Chicago Stump. The cache and Leah's Tree are just off the road less than 1/4 mile past the Chicago Stump - Be sure to visit the stump and learn the history of the Sequoias while you are here.
