Geocache Description:

*** The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates! ***

From the posted coordinates, you'll have a great photo viewpoint of one of Davenport's legendary icons!

The COL Ballroom, (AKA The 'COL'), is located in the West End of Davenport, Iowa, United States. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Davenport Register of Historic Properties, and the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Fame. The Col's heyday extended from the 1920s through the '60s. It hosted some of the biggest names in music, including Jimi Hendrix, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Guy Lombardo, Buddy Rich, B.B. King, the Everly Brothers, Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, Moody Blues, The Yardbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Hiatt. One of the most historic concerts there was May 23, 1924, when pianist/composer George Gershwin performed his groundbreaking "Rhapsody in Blue" with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra just three months after its New York premiere, as part of an 18-day national tour.

Using the information contained in the following link, fill in the correct numbers in the final coordinates formula and you'll be on your way to find the final cache: THE COL BALLROOM

The largest music event in Davenport’s history took place in what year? = 18AB

The original 'Col' was destroyed by fire in what year? = 19CD

The original name of the 'Col' (before the fire), also listed as this on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties, is the 'S______________ Halle'. = (convert the SIXTH letter only to a number A=1, B=2, ...) = E

The rebuilt 'Col' was opened (after the fire), across the street, in what year? = 19FG

The 'Col' was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in what year? = 19HI

The 'Col' was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Fame in what year? = 19JK

How many large, faded, tiled letters are on the front of the building, at the top of the facade, just under the arched roof? = L

The formula for the FINAL cache coordinates is:

N 41 (D)(J minus H).(H minus G)(K minus B)(A minus G)

W 90 (D)(E).(I minus F)(H minus C)(L minus G)

Update! (3/7/2019) ‘THE COL’ is now permantly closed and a new security fence and gates have been added. Due to this change, the cache has been moved to a new location and the formula for the final coordinates has been adjusted accordingly.

Good Luck and Have Fun!
