Henry A. Smith Woods is a 32-acre old-growth forest located in Trumansburg, NY. In 1909, this undeveloped forest fragment was established as a public park to be preserved in its natural state forever. Concern about overfeeding by a local deer population estimated at over 10 times natural size, led to construction of a fence around the woods in early 2018. Gates to allow visitors to enter have been set at opposite corners of the park, and a looping and and natural trail system has been established within the woods. Smith Woods is open to the public year round.
Parking is permitted on the road near the northern gate, except during the FingerLakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance in mid-July, and the Trumansburg Fair in late August.
