Now for the Cache:

This geocache was placed with the permission and assistance of The Heritage Museum.

The Heritage Museum of  Montgomery County is housed in the Grogan - Cochran Home and is surrounded by numerous vintage outdoor buildings and antique industrial equipment (including a log cabin and antique general store, a gift store, and various galleries). This site is an excellent memorial to the early years of Texas' 3rd established county.

The outdoor exhibits on the grounds include a small train, an antique tractor, a vintage cannon, a real sawmill, a trough, an oil rig, a bronze bust of “Joe Roughneck”,  acknowledgements of some of the area's legacy businesses; lumber, oil, railroading, and surprisingly, tobacco and cigar making.

While the outdoor exhibits are available daily from Dawn to Dusk, the interiors of the buildings are CLOSED on Sunday, Monday and on Tuesday. The remainder of the week, the Museum is open from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. A fee of $2.00/person is levied when the Museum is open.

The cache is located at the listed coordinates, HOWEVER, accessing the log sheet will first require discovering the combination to open the lock on the cache. This task will necessitate visiting several of those outdoor exhibits mentioned above.

The 3 digit combination of the lock equates to ABC where;

A - visit the bust of Joe Roughneck and the brass plaque that describes George Strake and the discovery of the Conroe oilfield, where,  A = subtract 2 from the number of the day in June that the Conroe oilfield was discovered, an oilfield that, in the 1930s, was the third largest producer in the nation.

B - visit the information sign titled, "Tobacco Trough", where B = the number of cigar factories that were producing cigars in the Willis area.

C = D + E;  where,

D - visit the information sign titled, "Saw Mills", where D = the number of dollars per day that a common laborer earned at the turn of the century.

E - visit the information sign titled "Agriculture". where E = the number of colonies that Stephen F Austin brought to Texas in the 1820s

Note: The lock must be set to the combination in order to re-lock it. Then turn the dials.
