Geocache Description:

****I am aware of issues with fence and surrounding area**** ***Cache is still there and intact October 15/21*** *** A new location will be scouted out shortly*** ** Stay on parking side, no need to interact with fallen fence** Orbiting the Planet - Mercury This series of caches is an attempt at showing the scale of our solar system. The Sun, or Sol, is the centre of our known system, and all bodies within orbit it, from the planets, asteroids, comets to the hundreds of dwarf planets. The Sun is MASSIVE, with a diameter of 1.39 million kilometres! The dome of the defunct Planet Hollywood restaurant in Niagara Falls, Canada will represent the Sun. The Planet Hollywood dome is approximately 24m. Using this scale caches have been placed at appropriate distances away to represent the distance from the Sun. The Planet Hollywood dome/Sun is at 43.093046 and -79.070791 (right near the Rainbow Bridge). Mercury is the smallest and innermost planet in the Solar System. Its orbital period around the Sun of 87.97 days is the shortest of all the planets in the Solar System. It is named after the Roman deity Mercury, the messenger of the gods. Mercury is 4879km in diameter, 38% the size of earth and .3% the size of the Sun. It has no atmosphere, is baked dry and dead by its proximity to the Sun. At the scale of the Planet Hollywood dome representing our Sun, Mercury would only be 8 cm in diameter and it would lie 1.0 km from our Sun. All caches are small plastic containers containing log sheets only. Please bring your own writing utensil.
