Wellington Wildlife Management Area
Wellington WMA is an oasis in the heart of agricultural land. It protects important riparian habitat along the south side of Shannon Creek. The often steep ravines of the creek provide a quiet retreat from the flat farmland above. Down in the ravines you will find a diversity of wildlife that seek refuge here. Watch for deer, upland game birds and many neo-tropical birds.
The Trans Canada Trail, Stanley Trail section (Manitoba TCT guide two), provides a route to explore the WMA. Be careful when the water is high, it can rush along the ravine floor at a dangerous speed.
Also be careful during hunting season (I would advise to explore the area before or after deer season). Wear bright orange high-vis clothing during hunting season.
Be prepared for a bit of ups and downs in this wildlife area.
