A relatively easy three-stage multi cache within a walking distance from Hervanta.
Hervannan historiaa Osa 2: Myllyojan laajennus:
Hervannassa ja sen välittömässä läheisyydessä ei juurikaan ole säilynyt merkkejä 1970-lukua varhaisemmasta asutuksesta eikä menneiden sukupolvien työstä. Jotain sentään kuitenkin löytyy. Hervantajärven ympärillä Hervannanmaalla on harjoitettu maanviljelystä 1700-luvun lopusta lähtien. 1800-luvun lopussa tuli tarve vallata lisää maanviljelysmaata Hervantajärven pintaa laskemalla. Tätä varten oli tarkoitus kaivaa järvelle uusi purku-uoma Myllyvuoren eteläpuolelta samalla Myllyojaa laajentaen. Uutta uomaa oli yritetty kaivaa jo 1860-luvulla hätäaputöinä siinä kuitenkaan onnistumatta; kallio tuli vastaan kun uomaa oli kaivettu vasta 30 metriä. Uutta uomaa ei tuollakaan kertaa saatu syntymään, mutta Myllyojaa laajennettaessa purkautuivat järven vedet syyskuun 7. päivä kesken työn Myllyojaan syöden sen uoman vauhdilla laajemmaksi. Järven pinta laski metrillä. Tuon päivän muistoksi pystytettiin Lempäälään vievän maantien varteen muistokivi.
Kätkö vie sinut tuolle muistokivelle. Maantieltä on nykyään suora kulku muistokivelle.

Muistokiven kokonaisten sanojen (ei pelkkien yksittäisten kirjainten) määrä = luku A. Muistokivessä oleva vuosiluku = luku B, ja kivessä olevien kokonaisten sanojen kirjainten yhteenlaskettu määrä = luku C. Laske myös kettinkiä kannattelevien tolppien lukumäärä. Tämä on luku E.
Pisteestä 2 (Silta) löydät Myllyojan ylittävän vanhan sillan jonka saatoit ylittää päästäksesi kivelle. Luvun D saat laskemalla sillankaiteiden jäljellä olevien pystytolppien lukumäärän niin että lasket kummankin puolen tolppien lukumäärän yhteen. Osan tarvittavista tiedoista voit löytää myös kirjasta.
Kätkössä ei ole kynää eikä sinne mahdu matkalaisia. Loppupisteellä suositellaan korkeavartisia ja vedenpitäviä kumisaappaita ainakin keväällä, kesällä, syksyllä ja talvella.
Historical Hervanta region Part 2:
There aren't that many traces of the life and achievements of past generations that would date back to times earlier than the 1970's left in Hervanta. The area immediately south of Hervanta has been farmed at least since the end of the 16th century, and there at least some traces of the life before the 20th century still remain. Towards the end of the 19th century, the local farming community needed more farming land and the means to that was to gain land by lowering the water level in the Hervantajärvi lake. It was decided to dig a new outlet south of the Myllyvuori hill, while at the same time also widening the Myllyoja stream. Digging up a new southern outlet was as unsuccessful as an earlier attempt in the 1860s. When widening the Myllyoja stream, the water rushed in on the 7th of September with a force that ate the stream wider than before. As a result, the water level in the lake sank permanently by a meter. To commemorate the event, a stone was erected on the side of the road leading to Lempäälä near the stream.
The cache takes you to the memorial stone. Since fall 2021, there is direct access to the stone from the road, although the stone faces the old alignment of the road to Lempäälä. You may also use the path indicated by the waypoint "Bridge" to get to the stone. Walk over the Myllyoja stream on the old bridge, and squeeze your way through the thin young spruces.
The final coordinates to the cache are N61 25.DEE and E023 50.YYY.
Calculate YYY with the formula B-[(D*C)*C]+(A*D)-1 where A= the number of complete words on the stone (not just individual letters), B= the year carved on the stone, and C= the number of letters in the complete words inscribed on the stone. Count also the number of poles supporting the chain around the stone. This is number E.
Waypoint 2 is the old bridge, which you may have crossed to get to the stone. D=the number of remaining rail posts on the bridge (count both sides).
The cache does not hold a pencil and has no space for travel bugs. When visiting the final stage, waterproof wellingtons with high legs are recommended during winter, spring, summer and fall.
