Battle of Nashville - PreGalagan Invasion
January 3, 1995
"The snow laden clouds hung heavy on that January morning in 1995. Ominous noises were heard from the sky, quiet at first. Deep rhythmic tones slowly building toward some unknown crescendo as they came closer. We were watching Ralph Emery, waiting for the school report when the first bombs fell. A series of high pitched whines preceeded every explosion, increasing our tension. Sirens were heard in the distance as first responders raced into the affected neighborhoods. We looked to the sky to see those hideous shapes begin to break through the clouds. Blocky, tentacled nightmares, like visions from an H.P. Lovecraft fever dream, raining death down upon the city. When Demetria called out from the televison for everyone to retreat to their place of safety, we knew that all hope was lost. How could we defend ourselves from these invaders, the city was simply unprepared. Calls rang in to WKDF asking how could the mayor have left the city exposed to this attack, why the city coucil had failed to prepare and if Greer Stadium still stood.
Then in our darkest moment, a light erupted from downtown. Shot after shot flew into the oncoming horde as the brave men and women of the BellSouth Division began to return fire from their headquarters. Many lives were forever changed on that fateful day, but as the shots rang out from the Bat Building we knew that Nashville would survive. The PreGalagan Space Invaders were repelled, our city was saved." - Life on the Line, The South Central Bell Memoirs
This geocache is placed near a mural honoring this dark day in Music City history and the bravery of those who fought to defend Nashville and our way of life.
Never forget.
