Applying Geocaching to Education
This cache is a part of a pedagogic European Erasmus + project called « Geocaching - Minds on the Move ». Pupils and teachers from seven different countries (France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Spain) have used Geocaching as an Educational Tool. We hope you’ll enjoy it.

La Basilica, simbolo della città, è uno dei rari esempi di architettura di passaggio tra romanico lombardo-emiliano e gotico francese. La chiesa fu costruita dal 1219 al 1227 per volontà del Cardinal Guala Bicchieri. Da non perdere la stupenda facciata in pietra verde di Pralungo, l’interno con la maestosa navata centrale, le decorazioni dei capitelli e delle arcate delle navate laterali, gli affreschi e i rilievi in pietra della cupola rappresentanti i quattro evangelisti, la cappella del Santissimo in puro stile gotico e il coro ligneo del 1511 custodito nell’abside. La sala del capitolo ha un importante valore storico: qui, nel 1310, fu firmato un trattato tra guelfi e ghibellini vercellesi, in presenza dell’imperatore Enrico VII. Di grande impatto anche il chiostro del XVI sec., impreziosito da archi a tutto sesto e volte a crociera sostenute da colonnine disposte a gruppi di quattro che poggiano su una sola base.

The Basilica, symbol of the city, is one of the rare examples of architecture of the transition between Lombard-Emilian Romanesque and French Gothic. The church was built from 1219 to 1227 by the will of Cardinal Guala Bicchieri. Do not miss the beautiful Pralungo green stone facade, the interior with the majestic central nave, the decorations of the capitals and the arches of the side aisles, the frescoes and the stone reliefs of the dome representing the four evangelists, the chapel of the Most Holy in pure Gothic style and the wooden choir of 1511 kept in the apse. The chapter room has an important historical value: here, in 1310, a treaty was signed between the Guelphs and Ghibellines of Vercelli, in the presence of Emperor Henry VII. The 16th century cloister is also of great impact, embellished with round arches and cross vaults supported by columns arranged in groups of four resting on a single base.
