Discover the Golden Whip Valley. Admire nature and learn interesting facts about the local Geology!

The information board at waypoint 01 teaches you some interesting facts
:
About 400 million years ago, quartz sandstone strata were formed here. Some 250 million years ago carbonate formation like limestone and dolomite developed. The crust uplifted to become land about 210 million years ago.
The Himalayan movement dated from about 65 million years ago has formed a three-level planation surface here. They are at 1200m, 1000m and 800m ASL.
Intermittently, the earth's crust uplifted and the cap strata above the quartz sandstone were eroded off. Along some interlaced joints flowing water cut down in the strata and split the ancient planation surface into primary mesas and peak shaped ridges of different sizes. Along joints the marginal parts were split into the rudiments of the rock dykes and the stone pillars. The representative landform of this stage is the mesa plain.
Regional tilting and uplift resulted in further undercutting by the streams. That worked alternately with headward erosion which increased the density of the stream network. The mesa plain further developed and along vertical joints rock masses collapsed. Valleys, stone pillars, peak forests, dykes, natural bridges and arches were formed.
When the earth's crust is in a relatively stable state the rock masses in the sandstone peak forest area collapse due to weathering and gravity. The streams erode the banks laterally. By that rock pieces are washed away and accumulated. The peaks and pillars gradually become shorter and smaller.
Please, answer at least three of the following questions and mail them to me before logging (You will get help from the boards at the waypoints):
a) Describe how plant growth impacts the changes in the appearance of the surface! Explain your answer according to your own observation! You can substantiate your findings in a photo.
b) Fluvial erosion happens laterally or down-cutting. Which one is predominant in the building of the Golden Whip Valley? Which observations lead on to your answer?
c) How is a cliff formed according to the explanation given? Mention at least two aspects! How can you see this in the Golden Whip Valley?
d) Explain the reasons for the occurrence of colluvial rocks! Why can they easily form here?
e) How is a gully formed? Why do you think conditions for developing a gully are ideal here?
Colluvial Rock" (waypoint 05)!
To prove that you were actually here, please tell the last word of the English text in the information board "Colluvial Rock" (waypoint 05)!
