Geocache Description:

This is a projection multicache. There are a number of ways to calculate projections: by hand, 3rd party apps, and even websites. Being familiar with calculating projections will make this cache much more enjoyable.

Sadly, the original Jack in the Box cache kept getting its innards muggled so I had to archive it. For whatever reason, the only thing that was taken were the contents — the log and swag — but the containers themselves were left alone. I had spent some effort in making it, so I salvaged the containers and hoped I'd find a good location to place it again. With the Historic Union Cemetery being willing to allow geocaches onsite, this seemed like a great time to resurrect JitB!

As is the case with all cemeteries, please be mindful where you are when searching for the cache. Please show it the care and respect that is deserved in such a location.

Historic Union Cemetery

Park Gates open Daily, 7 AM to 6 PM. Office open Monday-Friday 8-5, closed on weekends

There is a wonderful website with a bunch of information about the history of the cemetery here. It is worth the time reading through the website and learning more about the history of Bakersfield.

Stage 1- Garden of Innocence

Where you are standing is the entrance to the Garden of Innocence. This area was established for abandoned children to give them a proper burial spot. The area to the south of this garden is also for indegent persons and, up until recently, wasn't maintained well. In 2013, the Historic Union Cemetery took over the upkeep and cleaned it up. There are some interesting headstones in this area that you'll need to visit to find the clues for the next projected location. Each headstone should be stand out and be easily visible. Stand at GZ for the next projection.
