The sandstone cliffs of the Gheralta region of Tigray are home to 35 hidden rock-hewn churches, each with its own unique ancient murals and relics and some dating back to the fourth century. This cache hunt leads you to yet another panorama view of Gheralta mountain ranges and the base for the exploration of the famours churches Daniel Korkor and Abuna Yemata. While its neighbouring cache at Miriam Korkor is more for the brave-hearted, this cache is meant to be child-friendly and does not involve climbing or trekking.
The scenery from this spot is best in the morning hours when the rising sun seemingly pours gold over the mountain range ahead.

Note by the owner (July 2019):
After four years in Ethiopia, my time in the 'Land of Origins' came to an end in July 2019. I have done my best to widen and maintain the net of geocaches in the country, but now need to call on my fellow cachers for help: If you venture out to search for this cache, please take a replacement container with you, just in case the original is gone. - Sundowner74 |
