Comienza nuestra ruta en el límite urbano, donde termina la ciudad, después de dejar atrás la barriada de Las Palmeras y a la altura del arroyo Cantarranas. Un Carril-Bici nos facilitará el desplazamiento tanto si vamos andando como pedaleando. También podemos dejar el coche en distintos puntos intermedios de la ruta (NO es recomendable dejarlo al principio) incluyendo algún bar-restaurante donde reponer fuerzas, una gasolinera algo más adelante o el propio parking del Centro de Visitantes.
La ruta transcurre en casi su totalidad paralela a la A-431, carretera autonómica que une Córdoba con Lora del Rio (Sevilla) Aunque los cordobeses la han llamado siempre “la carretera de Palma” o de Palma del Rio. Solo en el último tramo deberemos abandonarla para acercarnos al que será nuestro objetivo final: el Centro de Recepción de Visitantes de Medina Azahara
El Centro de Visitantes de Medina Azahara fue inaugurado en 2009 por la reina Sofía, culminando un largo proceso de 4 años para su construcción y 20 millones de euros de inversión. El edificio, de forma rectangular y arquitectura minimalista, está construido en hormigón blanco y acero estableciendo un paralelismo con las construcciones califales: blanco y rojo almagra. Está situado a 800 metros del yacimiento y enterrado en gran parte para minimizar el impacto paisajístico. Además de contar con todo el moderno equipamiento que es propio de este tipo de centros, en 2010 se le concedió al edificio el Premio Aga Khan de Arquitectura, prestigioso premio internacional que se otorga a los principales proyectos arquitectónicos, urbanísticos o paisajísticos del mundo musulmán, o relacionados con éste.

Our route begins at the urban boundary, where the city ends, after leaving the neighborhood of Las Palmeras and at the height of the Cantarranas stream. A Carril-Bike will facilitate the displacement whether we are walking or pedaling. We can also leave the car at different intermediate points of the route (it is NOT advisable to leave it at the beginning), including a bar-restaurant where you can recover your strength, a gas station a little further on or the parking of the Visitors Center itself.
The route runs almost entirely parallel to the A-431, regional road linking Cordoba with Lora del Rio (Seville) Although the Cordovan have always called it "the road of Palma" or Palma del Rio. Only in the last section we will have to abandon it to get closer to what will be our final objective: the Visitor Reception Center of Medina Azahara
The Visitor Center of Medina Azahara was inaugurated in 2009 by Queen Sofia, culminating a long process of 4 years for its construction and 20 million euros of investment. The building, rectangular in shape and minimalist architecture, is built in white concrete and steel, establishing a parallelism with the caliphal constructions: white and red almagra. It is located 800 meters from the site and buried largely to minimize the landscape impact. In addition to having all the modern equipment that is typical of this type of centers, in 2010 the building was awarded the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, prestigious international award given to the main architectural, urban or landscape projects of the Muslim world, or related to it.
