For many years, Saxon Harbor was one of the places where the historic Flambeau trail connected to Lake Superior. French Canadian voyagers and fur traders used the trail as a portage between Lake Superior and the larger rivers to the south. Today, Saxon Harbor is still a place where you could put in a boat, pitch a tent, or take a swim - though a major storm in 2016 disrupted this operation for several years. The storm did 10 million dollars of damage to Saxon harbor, and while the park has now been fully repaired, the area will still never look the same again.
You can access the cache without getting your feet too wet by parking at the old restrooms. This is the area where the campground used to be located, before it was wiped out by the floods and moved uphill. The cache is winter friendly, so you'll be able to find it at any time of the year. The coordinates might bounce around a bit due to the tree cover, but the container should be relatively easy to spot. Have fun!
