Town Name: Shiawasseetown
Population: 60
Reason For Becoming A Lost Town: A trading outpost whose goal of becoming the state capital failed.
Town History: Shiawasseetown (shortened to Shiatown) was a town with big plans. Established in 1837 (same year Michigan became a state) Shiawassee as it originally called was a normal trading post that grew to include bank, carding mill, churches, elevators, flour mill, general store, hotel, planing mill, the above-mentioned post office, sawmill, schoolhouse, taverns, and others.
Ten years after Michigan's statehood, politicians were interested in moving the capital from Detroit to a more central location. Developers who saw dollar signs scouted the area until coming to Shiatown. Most of the town's property was bought up and 90 plots were quickly made. Streets and blocks quickly sprang up, along with the park that this cache is located. With the new dam recently constructed, Shiatown looked like it had a shot.
Sadly, it was never meant to be. Lansing was small at the time, but was a transportation hub and already had an established population. Rumors are that Shiatown was made the capital of Michigan for a day, but I couldn't confirm that. Shiatown quietly drifted away into the 4-corner burg it is now.
Cache Description: Cache is a small clear pill container in Shiatown West Park. Please use stealth and check out the nearby dam!
