The American Legion was chartered by Congress 1919 as a Patriotic Veterans Organization. Today there are 2 million members and 13,000 posts worldwide. The National headquarters are in Indianopolis, Indiana. August 2017 the Legion elected the first woman to hold the position of National Commander, Denise H Rohan, Wisconsin. It is a non-profit organization doing many good works for the community. The American Legion is noted for helping Veterans and Children. The Women's Auxillary is an active part of the Legion. The Warsaw, Missouri American Legion Post 217 burned in February 2018 and was rebuilt and opened May 26, 2018 bigger and better.
