Geocache Description:

Welcome to #4 of the HD JP-Series, a series of eight caches with code words plus a final containing a small award for every finder.
These caches have been placed in honor of our good friend HD JP who was a geocaching genius. His 61,825 finds stand as an inspiration to us all. HD JP was also known for the quality and professionalism of his more than 150 hides, and we aim to reflect his values in our memorial to him.

If you would like to add a cache in honor of HD JP, please do so. It would be helpful to use the phrase
HD JP –
at the beginning of your title, followed by your cache title.

Note: Most of Harrowgate Park is closing March 1. The cache is in the section remaining open, near the walking trail across the road.

**************************************************************************

CVGA’s longest running tradition is the Rally. The second longest is the 12 Days of Cachemas, which I think started in 2005.

HD JP found his first cache on 2/5/07. He found his first Cachemas cache, the 2007 series, in early 2008. He logged the 2008 series in early 2009. Both logs indicate these were solo searches.

At that time the primary focus for CVGA’ers was being first to find: watch for the day’s cache to be published and rush to the location regardless of hour or weather. It’s still a great ongoing tradition. However, by the time the 2009 series came out, HD JP was an active member of CVGA, a participant in many activities, and well on his way to being a best caching buddy and mentor to many of us. He said that much as he liked Cachemas, driving up from Victoria at the crack of dawn for 12 days was not part of his holiday joy. He suggested waiting until the Sat after the final and setting up a geographically sensible route. A new tradition was born. Of course, he plotted the first route as he has done most of the years since. (There are many CVGA’ers who learned from him how to lay out routes and use Nuvi’s.)

Participants have changed over time. Some years the day has been longer than others. A few times we have felt like Cache-cicles. Every year has been fun, fellowship, and lots of laughs.

In recognition of this HD JP tradition, enjoy this early Cachemas salute. Posts of Cachemas memories would be special.

Don’t forget to get the code word. (Unfortunately coords may bounce in this park as much as 30-50 feet. That never stopped HD JP.)
