Geocache Description:

The cache is located overlooking what used to be Shag Rock but since the earthquakes has been referred to as Shag Pile. Its Maori name Rapanui means the great sternpost and marks the opening of the estuary. The area is popular with dog walkers along the beach and it is on the Christchurch Coastal Pathway. There is no parking at GZ - you can park further down the road or in Sumner and enjoy a walk along the beach. Be careful with young children as it is near a busy road.
