Social Housing (社會住宅) is an umbrella term referring to rental housing which may be owned and managed by the state, by non-profit organizations, or by a combination of the two, usually with the aim of providing affordable housing. Social housing can also be seen as a potential remedy to housing inequality. - Wikipedia
Before the Jiankang Public Housing (健康公宅) built, here was a Military dependents' Village (眷村), called "Fu Lien 5th village (婦聯五村)". Just like other abandoned military dependents' village, Fu Lien 5th village had been included in urban renewal. After 4-year construction, Jiankang Public Housing opened for rent in May, 2018.
If you have ever traveled to other cities of Taiwan, you might notice that the image of military dependents' village takes an important part of Taiwanese culture. The old buildings and historical stuff would draw you back to the scene of Chinese Civil War. To memorize the history, Jiankang Public Housing kept the front door of Fu Lien 5th village and combined it with the modern design. When you visit this place, you can walk around and find some elements of the old days.
