This cache is placed across the road from the War Memorial in Ellistown. Please be aware of muggles but, by all means take a seat at the memorial and take time to reflect and remember these men who gave so much for us today.
Tom was born in the 1890's and lived on Victoria Street, Ellistown. He held the reputation of being the first man to volunteer from his village into the Kings Armed Forces. He enlisted at Coalville in the first week of the war. He was one of the First 50 enlisting in Coalville in August 1914 into the 5th (1/5th) Leicestershire Battalian with the other 49 recruits. He spent nearly two months under canvas on the High Tor of Charnwood Forest, also training at drill hall in Loughborough and the Institute at Thringstone. In early 1915 he embarked to France from Coalville Station. Tom survived the war.
The images show Tom in the Exhibition. He was created by Forest Way special school.
First 50 Heroes

This cache was placed by First50 with kind permission of the landowner.
The GAGB are helping to coordinate this series. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.
