Walloping Willows on Wasp Island at Horsbere Brook from 10:00 to 12:30
Wednesday 5th December
Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere. Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to the brook.
Where: We will meet on the track (see waypoint) and then make our way to the pond. For those bringing their own boats you are welcome to park inside the reserve.
What: Cutting back the willows that have been growing on wasp island, clearing the regrowth on the other islands and burning our off cuts.
Equipment: You will need a boat to access what is known as wasp island, which is in the middle of the nature reserve. We are hoping the wasps will be dormant this time of year!
There are sections in the water where you would be able to stand up, however, the long ditches that run around the island would be too deep.
The ranger will provide a boat on a day, if however you have a suitably sturdy boat then you are welcome to bring your own (please confirm this prior to the day).
You are also encouraged to bring your own buoyancy aid/life jacket if you own one (please confirm this that is the case) in additon to wearing old clothes and shoes.
How: Felicity the Countryside Ranger will be there providing the necessary tools and guidance, bring your own gloves if you prefer.
Health and Safety: By attending this event you are agreeing to the terms and conditions listed in the Geocaching disclaimer. The Countryside Rangers do not accept any liability and it is your responsibility to determine if you are capable of what is being asked.
Due to the nature of this event children will not be able to attend.
The ensure the saftey for the group, numbers will be limited to eight spaces and will be on a first come first served basis.
