Geocache Description:

Welcome to beautiful Sinnemahoning State Park. We are very happy that you are visiting our park!

This easy-to-find cache is part of the Ranger Rick Jr. Geocache Trail, a kid-friendly trail located near the 40 Maples picnic area in the park. This trail is ideal for families, beginners, and for those bringing their bicycles.

Please use stealth when finding this cache.  Be sure to re-hide the cache exactly as you found it.

Welcome to The Lowlands Trail.  This scenic trail, which was originally part of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad bed, follows the course of the First Fork Sinnemahoning Creek through five miles of the park, passing through open fields, shrubby riparian zones, and mature, towering forests.

Interpretive panels along the way provide insights into the wildlife and ecology of the park.  A spur of the trail near the 40 Maples Day Use Area leads to a secluded viewing blind that overlooks an abandoned beaver pond.  Quiet visitors may be able to see great blue herons wading in the pond or painted turtles basking on partially submerged logs. Osprey, green herons, belted kingfishers, bobcats, and whitetail deer also frequent the area.

The 3.5 miles of trail from the 40 Maples Day Use Area to the northern trailhead is gravel surfaced and perfect for bicycles or wheelchairs.  Near the northern trailhead, a wildlife viewing platform overlooks an herbaceous opening that provides excellent habitat for deer, elk, woodcock, migratory songbirds, and monarch butterflies.

We hope you enjoy the Lowlands Trail its many geocaches.

Thanks for visiting Sinnemahoning State Park!
