Geocache Description:

This one was a leg burner for me! My calves were sore for two days.

We were fishing From French Lake to Lake Faucherie down Canyon Creek and came across this beautiful lake named Weil Lake.
I thought it was going to be to hard of a area to hide a cache in but when we reached Weil Lake there were 5 people fishing and about 10-20 people just enjoying the view and hiking. Some kids also, not to young though, it was a pretty good hike into the canyon. We had a 15 yr old girl, a 14 boy in our 6 member group, they did better than me and my out of shape body. So I decided to leave a cache if this many people can reach this lake.

What a beautiful high Sierra lake with a backdrop of tall granite cliffs all around the lake.
Go to my website to get a sample of the terrain in the area, look for the Weil Lake pics. www.gone-fishing.net

Easy??? Route: Everyone I talked with at Weil Lake started at French Lake hiked to Weil Lake then hiked back to French Lake, I was told it was about a 1 to 1-1/2 hr hike one-way not stopping a lot.

Leg-Burner Route: We fished from French Lake to Lake Faucherie.
Weil Lake is about halfway between the two. It's all down hill at least.
I don't know how long the hike would be to do it straight through, it took me 7 hours to fish every pool I could reach. (my guess…..about 3 hrs straight). We left a car at the Lake Faucherie dam to get us back to French Lake trailhead.

Note: Please make sure you are prepared for hiking in the Sierras, this was a hard hike on my out of shape body. Make sure you have plenty of water and tell somebody were you will be hiking, this is a fairly remote area.
Get a Tahoe National Forest service map and use it to see exactly where you will be hiking. Please do not hike to this cache unless you are familiar with hiking in the Sierras, I would not want anybody getting in over there heads in the forest.

French Lake dam Starting Point:
I would suggest using a truck with a little ground clearance, but one of the vehicles we used was a minivan, we took it slow and had no problem with the roads in the area.
The trailhead to the French Lake dam is at: N39.43430 W120.52926
French Lake Dam is at: N39.42093, W120.54227

There were 7 cars/trucks the morning of our hike. The parking area is ¾ of a mile from the French Lake dam.

Lake Faucherie starting point:
You can park right at the dam at this lake. There were a lot of campers and day users around the dam area.
Lake Faucherie Dam: N39.42895, W120.56916

You decide which route to take, there both beautiful and a challenge.

The cache is located 15' from the lakes edge and 5' off of the trail (you can see it from the trail if you know where to look).
