William Cowie bought the farm Tafelberg for £225 on 11 July 1844, now known as Kloof. Cowies Hill Farm was originally owned by Andries Laas, and named Steilhoogte. William Cowie married Magdalene Laws, daughter to Andries, and a few years later, the farm was renamed Cowies Hill. Today, Cowies Hill is more known for the Comrades Marathon. Today, as we place this cache, we remember the 100 years of the Comrades Marathon, and the nearly 200 years of history of this area.
