Today, we are celebrating 2 great holidays, Groundhog Day AND Ice Cream For Breakfast. Groundhog Day is the day Punxsutawney Phil is pulled out his burrow and if sees his shadow at sunrise, 6 more weeks of winter. And if he doesn’t see his shadow, we will have an early winter. Most years, Phil sees his shadow and winter rolls on. Ice Cream For Breakfast was started by a Mom and Dad in Upstate New York, trying to brighten up the dreary days of winter for their kids, so they started Ice Cream for Breakfast. The unofficial holiday is celebrated on the first Saturday of February. The fine folks of PAGA have been celebrating this unofficial holiday for many years and the tradition will continue this year.
Join us on Saturday, February 2nd at South Park. We will be gathering for a short event, well shorter then last years event, that’s for sure. We will be gathering at the Montour Shelter from 9:30 am to 10:30 am to enjoy some ice cream for breakfast and celebrate that, no matter what the groundhog says, that there is only 6 more weeks of winter. We will provide some sort of ice cream dish for breakfast, so please bring your own bowl and spoon. If you would like to bring something else to share, please let us know what your bringing in your will attend. We will also have the fire going again, so if you are able to contribute some firewood, that would be great as well!
There is a small playground by the shelter and the shelter is built on a hill, so if there is snow on the ground, bring a sled for some winter fun. Well behaved geo-pups are allowed as well, but they must be on leashes at all times.
Hope to see everyone on February 2nd in South Park from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the Montour Shelter!
