Military surplus stores have been one of my favorite places since childhood. There was something strange and exciting about their look - and that strange smell - to a young boy. My father was a Marine in WWII. He fought his way across the Pacific Ocean from California to China, and came out as a Sergeant with the usual collection of ribbons and medals.
A generous, but frugal man, he was never in a hurry to see me spend my hard-earned allowance of 75 cents a week at the local surplus store. I'd dig around to find an odd gizmo in one of the messy bins, and say, "Dad! What's this?" He'd smile broadly, and answer my question, sometimes telling me how he'd used the thing himself. The stuff held so many memories for him.
Dad never said much about the fighting in his war, but he occassionally told funny stories about life in The Corps: bootcamp, K-rations, haircuts, troopships, islands, and China. This cache will be in memory of the good times I had poking around in ARMY-NAVY stores with the Ol' Man. Here's to you, Dad!

The rules to log this locationless geocache:
1. Find a military surplus store, and mark the coordinates with your GPS receiver. Take a photo of the store that shows you and your GPS on location. Spend some time checking out the wares, then introduce yourself to the staff, and tell them why you're there...and who's buying all their ammo boxes every week!
2. Include the GPS coordinates, city, state, and country in your log report. Only one log per player. Each site may be logged only once, so be sure to read all the logs to see if your store has already been logged.
3. Upload the photo IMMEDIATELY after submitting your log report. Photos must be originals taken to log this cache. Please don't make us all wait while you develop film. Logs without photos will be deleted.
