Geocache Description:

Please Note: This is a Military Training Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all bylaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, marker posts, flags, lights or manned control posts.

This is the 1st birthday edition of mine and Skittles' personal geocaching event series based on the book "Dartmoor 365". In the past year the Dartmoor 365 events have included two pubs/cafes, three tors, two ancient monuments and a grassy area on the side of a road next to a clapper bridge. The events have largely been blessed by lovely weather, although two events were decidedly damp and miserable. The spread has been nice and wide, although this event is the most remote to date, and the following image shows the previous 12 squares.

The thirteenth event in a series of monthly events taking place in different squares of the Dartmoor 365; the square chosen at random by pulling out a square at each event. The square pulled out for this month is I6 Wester Red Lake. The event will start at around 10am at the given co-ordinates for geo-chat, TB exchanging etc. People are free to come and go as they please. Skittles and I will be there until around 11am, but depending on the weather/attendees it may go on for longer.

The location for this event, Western Red Lake is included in the Dartmoor 365 book as the location where all three of the military firing ranges, Willsworthy, Okehampton and Merrivale, all come together. To demonstrate that John Hayward writes that the range pole at this point is much larger than the other ones. I have not been to verify this but I am sure on the day of the event we can investigate to see if this is still correct.
