This cache is located on the site of South Austin's “Before I Die...” wall. This interactive art project invites people to share their personal wishes and dreams in a public space. The original wall was created by New Orleans–based artist Candy Chang in 2011 on an abandoned house, inspired by the grief of losing a loved one. She stenciling the phrase “Before I die I want to ___” on a painted wall, and invited anyone to use a piece of chalk and share their hopes for their lives. Since then, the concept has been re-created over 1000 times in at least 70 countries and 35 languages around the world.
This South Austin wall was created around 2014 on the side of a remodeled 1800's carriage house off of South Congress Avenue. After the wall fills up with messages, it is cleaned each week to allow new messages to be added. You can read more about this project at this link.
I spoke to the owner of the property before placing the cache, and she gave me an enthusiastic go-ahead. When finding the cache, you can add your own “Before I Die...” wish to the wall. You can, of course, write whatever you'd like, but I request that your wish be something that is really important to you, other than your next geocaching goal.
Please respect the property owner's privacy by staying directly in front of the "Before I Die" wall. There is no need to go around the side of the building near the fence or house.
