Geocache Description:

MSU's Observatory houses a reflector-type telescope used primarily for teaching purposes.  This location, close to city lights, decreases the telescope's ability to see faint objects in the sky.  On the other hand, this location, close to campus, makes it much more convenient for faculty and staff, students, and others to use it.  (University of Michigan also has a telescope.  It's up in the Upper Peninsula, a long way from Ann Arbor, but with a much darker sky!)

Long-time inhabitants of these parts will remember when the MSU Judging Pavilion was at the corner of Shaw Lane and Farm Lane, but that location is now a parking lot.  The Pavilion is now out here on the south end of campus.  It is the site for many activities through the year, but many of those events involve showing and judging horses.  Many participants park their trailers and homes-away-from-home in the RV parking area across the road from this cache site, using the electric hookups provided.

The juxtaposition of the 21st Century study of the stars side-by-side with study of the 19th Century equine transportation system amused us, so we decided to commemorate it with a geocache here.

You must physically sign the log in order to claim a find on this cache. Bring your own writing implement.
