Geocache Description:

This cache is one of five in the "Trees of Douglas Island" series that were placed in the Fall of 2018 with my son and thepinkertonboys. The series includes: GC811GH, GC81480, GC81481, GC81482 and GC814A2. It was a great adventure on a beautiful sunny day! I hope your adventure is just as enjoyable!

If you have been boating on the Fraser River and over to Douglas Island in particular than you should be familiar with the challenge of these caches. Come prepared and always have a Trip Plan.

The island is at the confluence of the Pitt River and Fraser River. Both rivers are tidal which has a major influence on the water level and flow rate surrounding the island. The water levels and flow rates are also seasonal and significantly affected by freshet. You should be familiar with all these concepts before making any trip over here. Boat safely!

We placed the cache in the Fall at a high tide that was followed by a very high low tide. The Fall is ideal as the river flow rates are much lower than the spring. The high tide meant that we didn't have to wade through the knee deep silt. The "high" low tide following the high tide meant the boat didn't get stranded on the silt while we were away!

Once you are on the island you will need to make through the blackberry barrier! If you land at the suggested location there is a trail already created that will help immensely. Once you are through that barrier it opens into a meadow area. From here there is some more bushwhacking required along a game trail to make it to the large meadow on the west end of the island. The difficulty rating is for the effort required to get to ground zero. Once in the general area the container should be quite easy to find. I have left a bison tube with a log in each cache for the first to find.
