This one is for the less energetic cacher, as you can drive to
within at least 300 feet of all the waypoints and the final cache.
There are six waypoints and the cache is a regular ammo box
with lots of goodies and an oversized log book. Inside you might
even find some personalized Rimdriver souvenir magnets, please take
only one.
You are going to be driving along a rim, or a series of rims of
basalt, high above a lake, with lots of recreating folks around.
Although you are well 'above' most of them, you still might get
company near the waypoint tags (which are silver with black
writing). You will need to be SUPER careful to be discreet. Sturdy
shoes might help, and if you are fearful of heights, this cache is
not for you. Always watch for rattlesnakes in this country as
well.
IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE:
- Expect at least 2 HOURS of driving
and sightseeing to complete your adventure.
- Watch young children and dogs, as some of the spots are
rather dangerous (ledges without barriers, sharp objects),
especially the final tag.
- Bring your camera, and a detailed
map of the area, especially if you are not a local.
Enjoy the views, and explore the park and trails at the first
waypoint.
At the first waypoint is a State Park. There is a building with
some neat displays and a guest book inside the park itself, however
we placed the first tag OUTSIDE the park, as it has limited hours
and days that it is open, and we didn't want THAT to determine when
you could find our cache. If you get there when the park is open,
you may just get lucky and be able to grab a free map that will
help you later on. Every waypoint and the cache are on public land.
Very sad what people do to public places. There is more than one
way to get to most of these places, but the hints on each tag will
help you take the less intrusive path to the next. Children and
pups need to be EXTRA careful at ALL the waypoints.
We hope you decide to try for the Rimdriver
Bonus Cache. It is a hike that starts from the end of this
hunt. You will find the coordinates in the Rimdriver logbook. No
need to move the vehicle, but it is quite a hike...plan on at least
another couple hours.
We realize this is NO Moondog3 cache, but there is a tradeoff
between being able to drive to good views and having unspoiled
places to place caches. This is weighted toward driveable good
views... Since YOU can drive to them, others can too, and DO. We
apologize ahead of time for any trash you encounter, or dead
animals (for some reason people think that a dead pet disappears
when they drop it off a cliff or near a BLM road...) But you don't
have to worry about wading through poofy sand or getting any
blisters!
