Geocache Description:

Welcome to Polk City! Polk City was founded by George Beebe. In 1848, he purchased the land on which the city is located, in 1850 he plotted the town, and in 1875 a formal vote was taken to incorporate the town. Mr. Beebe and his wife, Hester, "...started west from Nauvoo, Illinois as part of a Mormon wagon train headed for Utah in early 1846."  They decided to stay in central Iowa. A cemetery is located just east of the town square with the graves of several of their children- and a geocahce. George and Hester moved on to Provo, Utah sometime around 1880. (references from Polk City's Early History by Roxanna Currie.)

Today, Polk City is a growing town in northern Polk County, yet still retains its small-town feel. It's the only town in the county with a traditional town square!

Please be careful parking along Highway 415- it's a busy commuter road with many folks going well over 55 mph, and some going much less... a dangerous combination.

Travel bug "Sir Jolly Roger's Skull" was in the cache at time of placement.
