Geocache Description:

The Kennet and Avon Canal is 87 miles long, starting from Bristol following the course of the River Avon before the canal links it to the River Kennet at Newbury, and from there to Reading on the River Thames. The waterway incorporates 105 locks.

The canal was constructed between 1794 and 1810 but gradually fell into disuse after the opening of the Great Western Railway. In the latter half of the 20th century the canal was restored in stages, largely by volunteers. After much restoration work, it was fully reopened in 1990. The Kennet and Avon Canal has been developed as a popular heritage tourism destination for boating, canoeing, fishing, walking and cycling, and is also important for wildlife conservation.

This is a small box containing some kids stuff, if you take something please leave similar. Suitable for trackables.
This is a national cycle route (4) and public footpath. The paths are gravelly, sometimes wet in winter, could be tricky for pushchairs.

Go to the southern end of the Wier. The water is fast and deep but there is no need to go near the water or hang over the bridge!

If you follow the canal path west towards Reading, you will also find more caches left by our good geobuddies: beagles_candd.  This is a favourite walk for our litlle pack of beagles. This is a return of our first ever hide at this spot.
