John Anglin, Clarence Anglin, Frank Morris, and Allen West: These were the four men who planned and executed one of the most daring, complex, and probably successful escapes in the history of Alcatraz. Unfortunately, West, in an attempt to hide his efforts at removing his vent grill, used a cement compound that worked a little TOO well. On the night of the planned escape, he struggled to remove the grill but, by the time he did, the others were gone. He then returned to his cell and went back to sleep. His testimony was key in the direction our investigation is taking. Without it, evidence might have been overlooked.
Although his information came too late for us to cut off all routes of escape from the facility and the Bay, we at least have a good idea which direction the three remaining escapees probably took, if things even went the least bit according to their plans.
If we get this RIGHT, we are guaranteed of finding even more evidence of their attempt to reach Angel Island and the mainland.
