This geocache will be for those who are comfortable hiking moderate distances with steep inclines. There are logging roads that you can follow, or you can bushwhack straight up the hill to the cache location. Round trip time is approximately 1.5 hours to the geocache and back to the trailhead. Be sure to bring hiking boots, plenty of water, your GPS and your camera!
Coordinates to the trailhead/parking are provided on this listing. Parking is available across from the trailhead. Please pull over as far off the road as you can so that your car is safe from local traffic.
You will see the start of the trail across the street from where you park (the trail is actually a seasonal road called Front Federal Hill road). Follow Front Federal Hill road for about 10-15 minutes until you see some bright pink banners on the trees to your right, and posted signs on the trees to your left - there will be a logging road that starts on an incline to your right. Turn right and follow the inclined logging road - it will bend every so often as you ascend the hill. You can follow the inclined logging road all the way up until you reach an opening at the top of the hill, or you can stray off the road and bushwhack to the top of the hill (this is the faster route). I will include in this listing a picture of the path that I took, and a picture of what the inclined logging road turn looks like. Once you reach the top of the initial hill, you will then follow your GPS directly to the cache location.
You will know you are close to the geocache location when you see stone walls and a beautiful clearing which overlooks the town of Delhi, NY - accompanied by a two person bench and another familiar friend on a boulder to the right!
